What My Latest Google Maps Contributions Can Teach Hosts About Guest Experience
As a Level 6+ Google Local Guide, I’m always noticing the small details that make a place memorable. This week my profile reached 329 photos and 85 reviews, with more than 3.2 million views — and the newest contributions are a useful reminder that guest experience is built from exactly those details.
My latest review is The Paper Mill in Lasswade, where I loved the roast beef Yorkshire pudding wrap. I also photographed and reviewed Cafe Portrait on Queen Street in Edinburgh, noting the fast, welcoming service — especially appreciated when you’re fitting in a quick stop before exploring the galleries.
The Pear Tree on Nicolson Street is another recent addition to the photo collection, alongside fresh images from Kebab Club Edinburgh. These are very different venues, but both show why local recommendations work best when they are specific: tell people what to expect, where the atmosphere sits, and how the experience fits into their day.
For Airbnb hosts, that is the useful takeaway. Guests remember clear, personal guidance — the good coffee nearby, the unfussy lunch spot, the lively street, the place that works when the weather changes. Your welcome book and messages do not need to sound corporate; they need to sound like someone local who has actually paid attention.
I’m still a Level 6 Local Guide, with 167 points to go before Level 7. You can follow the latest reviews, photos and videos on my Google Maps profile: https://www.google.com/maps/contrib/110901189836150962567
