Stockbridge Is Making a 2027 Calendar — from Your Photos
There's a corner of Edinburgh where the community quietly out-creates the capital itself, and Stockbridge is it. Right now, Henderson Art Shop — the neighbourhood's art institution — is collecting photographs, paintings and drawings of Stockbridge and the local area for its 2027 calendar. The shop is at the gathering stage only: the finished calendar arrives later, ready to become one of the most genuinely local Christmas gifts of the season. But the door for entries closes on 8 October, so if you've spent the year photographing this part of the city, this is your moment.
The Competition
The brief is wonderfully open: images of Stockbridge and the surrounding area, in any medium — photograph, painting or drawing — at a minimum resolution of 300dpi so nothing is lost in print. You can submit up to twelve entries, which means one determined local could realistically fill the calendar single-handed: one image for every month of 2027, plus a shot at the cover. Monthly winners receive a free calendar, and the artist behind the winning cover image also takes home a £20 Henderson Art Shop gift voucher.
Why Hosts and Locals Should Enter
If you host guests in Edinburgh, you already have a hard drive full of this neighbourhood: morning light on the Water of Leith, the allotments in late summer, market-day crowds on Saunders Street. Those aren't just guest-bait photos — they're exactly the raw material a community calendar is made from. And if one of your shots is chosen, it becomes a lovely story to tell guests: the picture on the kitchen wall calendar, the one from the art shop down the road, is yours.

The closing date is 8 October — a little over two weeks away — so dig out those files this week rather than next. And when the printed 2027 calendar appears, snap one up early: it's the rare present that works for hosts, neighbours, and anyone who has ever loved Stockbridge.
